You will most likely use some type of technology or machines everyday of your life. You will use a phone, computer, automated machines in town, you may even have machines at home. When dealing with others we have very little tolerance and respect. When on the phone with a business or doctor's office we rarely talk to an actual person, it is normally just a recording telling you your information. If we're not talking on the phone we are usually texting or on social media. Many times we just stay at home and shop, work, and other things online instead of actually getting out of the house and interacting with others. During these times parents are not teaching their children good skills to use with others. Machines are good at low-skill repetitive jobs and also high-speed precise jobs. This makes it easier and faster for people to get the products they need for living. There is also more time for people to spend with their families since they aren't working extensive hours in factories. The downside to this is this puts several people out of a job and the machines may not be very accurate. Things used to be made more durable than they are now. This could be because people rely on machines to do work for them because it's easier and so they don't have to deal with it. For example, L.L. Bean merchandise is hand-made in the United States. Everything they make is durable and last forever. Many other brands have their stuff shipped in from other countries and their stuff wouldn't last as long because they rely on machines more just to mass produce things. Machines are not always a bad thing. They get things done fast and efficiently. That doesn't mean we should fire all the workers and replace them with machines. There are some jobs machines are better at and then there are some jobs that humans are better at. It is good to have a balance of this because if they work together everything will be good. Jurisdiction refers to the power to legislate or adjudicate with effect. It is the first question to be decided in a dispute involving a foreign element.1 Proceeding to hear a case without the proper jurisdiction is fatal to the case under that tribunal, and can only be remedied by a change of venue. The second important consideration is that of the choice of law. Since the 1930's, plastic pink flamingos have been a trendy statement piece at hotels and in yards across the country. Jennifer Price, the author of "The Plastic Pink Flamingo: A Natural History", uses tone, satire, and diction to show her view on United States culture. Price's view is that United States culture is flashy, cocky, and that Americans tend to try and stand out to get attention. "The pink flamingo splashed into the fifties market, it staked" (Price lines 1-2). Plastic flamingos are unable to splash like real flamingos, therefore Price is demonstrating satire. Also, the plastic flamingos are staked into the ground. "Americans had been flocking to Florida" (Price line 4) is humorous because the Americans flocking to the southern east coast like flamingos. The plastic pink flamingo became "synonymous with wealth and pizzazz"(Price line7-8). After the Great depression and the war, Americans had a lot of pride for their country, and this was one way of showing it. "This was a little ironic, since Americans had hunted flamingos to extinction in Florida" (Price lines 13-14). Price may be putting down American because Americans tend to follow the crowd and copy what everyone else is doing. The flamingo could be a metaphor of how Americans are followers and do not come up with their own ideas. The plastic pink flamingo gave an "extra fillip of boldness" (Price line 20). The flamingo was a way for Americans to stand out in the crowd and be noticed. Americans were flashy, cocky, and maybe even a little bit conceited. "And the Flamingo was pink- a second and commensurate claim to boldness" (Price lines 30-31). American culture is very flashy and bold. By being bold and flashy, it makes Americans stand out from the crowd and be noticed. Pink was the thing to have, it showed wealth and status. "The hues were forward-looking rather than old-fashioned" (Price lines 36-37). The pink flamingos were a way for the Americans to show pride after World War II. The plastic flamingos were the Americans' way of coming back out after the Depression and the war. They are the symbol that marks the beginning of a new era. "Even a real flamingo is brighter that anything else around it" (Price lines 48-49). The Americans wanted to be recognized after the war and show their pride for their country. Hempeficial, by Steven Jeffrey published in 2011 discusses the legalization of hemp and marijuana plants in the United States. Mr. Jeffrey thinks it is ludicrous that pot is illegal. In my opinion it is irresponsible to propose any initiative to legalize marijuana. My experience has proven it to be highly addictive, damaging to young brains and can rob the economy of the intellect necessary to keep us moving ahead. It is a myth that cannabis is not addictive. Studies of long- term users show a significant dependency correlation. A friend of mine, who is a neuroscientist, once told me that approximately 173,000 people have some form of dependence to or use cannabis or its sister plant hemp regularly. Jeffrey states â€Å"hemp has been used for at least 5,000 years†. That is a classic case of addiction, not be able to stop. Marijuana is very damaging to the brain, especially young brains. My husband, who is a doctor, points out that it is not uncommon for people who use, to complain about memory loss and not being able to think clearly. That the chemical tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in marijuana, corrupts the natural process of endocannabinoids, a key family of chemicals that help guide the brain in proper maturation. Yet Jeffrey refers to this as an â€Å"innocuous plant†. These chemicals are vital keys to the formation of memory, learning and decision-making. In this way, marijuana is even more damaging to a person because it pilots the brain to become stagnant. The primary concern is it has a lasting effect on young people. Jeffrey agrees that, â€Å"the evil female plant-marijuana. It gets you high, it makes you laugh†. My neighbor, a mother of three, told me she is very concerned that her once straight A students do nothing all day now except get high and laugh. When young people fail to show initiative to do something with their lives, we lose that portion of innovative ideas for new and improved technology. On the journey back to Petruchio home Grumio, a servant, is punished for an accident that was no fault of his own. While Petruchio is beating Grumio Katherine walks through mud to try and stop him. Katherine probably beat servants at home and treated them very badly but when she sees someone elses doing it she realises how bad it is and tries to stop it from happening. When Petruchio gets home he is very rough and complaining to the servants, showing Katherine what shrews are really like. Katherine tries to clam him down when he yells and hits servants. Even though it doesnt work once again Katherine is showing compassion for others by trying to protect them from Petruchio.  When the food is set on the table Petruchio throws it away, stating that there is something wrong with it. In this way Katherine is denied food, always for the best reasons. Once again Katherine tries to calm down him down by telling him to be content. She herself is learning to be content with what she gets while he pretends to find fault with everything. Still having not have any food all day, Petruchio take Katherine to bed, Katherine is very tired so goes to bed eagerly. But even though Katherine is exhausted Petruchio keeps lecturing her and ranting all through the night so she cant fall asleep. Petruchio is taming her like a falcon, and compares her to one my falcon . He will tame her like a falcon by depriving her for food and sleep until she accepts him as her master. He will do this by treating her badly yet pretending it is for her best interest, which ultimately it is, as when she is tamed she will be much happier. Katherine is starving and cant sleep. Though she begs Grumio for food he, acting on his masters orders, teases her and gives her none. She admits that before she has never needed to beg but I, who never knew how to entreat, nor never needed that I should entreat. When meat is out on the table Petruchio tells Hortensio, the guest, to eat all of it so Katherine cant have any.  Petruchio then shows Katherine fashionable clothes, yet will not let her have them as she is not yet a lady. When she becomes ladylike she can have all the nice clothes she wants. This is like a bribe to make her do what he wants, as otherwise she wont get the clothes she so desires. This makes Katherine angry, showing that she is still not fully tamed. She agrees with him that it is night-time when in fact it Is daylight. At his command she greets and old man like he is a young child. She only does and says what Petruchio wants her to do, but Shakespeare shows she is happy and content like this. At the end of the play Katherine tells the other wives how to be a good obedient wife. Of course this is only done on Petruchio command. She tells the other woman that they are bound to serve, love and obey. The independent Katherine of earlier scenes has been taken over completely by this humble wife, and Petruchio shows his pleasure by giving her a kiss.  The change was credible, especially if the taming scenes are taken into account. We know that Katherine is speaking the truth in the final speech as she has previously said that she always speaks her mind truthfully. This means that she believes in everything she says in the final speech and she has truly changed.
