NEONATAL Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
NEONATAL - Essay Example It is common in babies that are being breastfed. It develops when the liver of the baby is insufficient to remove the bilirubin from the bloodstream. The condition can occur when newborn fail to get a good start to breastfeeding, or when breastfeeding is supplemented with subtitles that end up interfering with breastfeeding. Enough breastfeeding helps to create a bowel movement that secrets bilirubin build up. Stoll, et al 210 states that, breastfeeding jaundice normally resolves itself when the baby gets enough feeding. If jaundice last for more than 14 days in a healthily breastfed infants, the condition is called breastfed jaundice. According to feeding requirement of premature infants, the condition is caused by certain state in breast milk, which disservices proteins that are responsible for breaking down bilirubin. This condition is genetically inherited. The Treatment of the breast milk jaundice depends on factors such as, whether the baby was born prematurely or not. There are cases where jaundice does not occur because of insufficient breastfeeding. In such case, giving the baby extra fluid will help. Other treatments include placing the baby under special blue light. In cases where the bilirubin supersedes the normal threshold, it is recommended that the mother stop nursing for a period of 24 hrs. This condition is common in babies are born prematurely or those who experience respiratory problem after birth. The condition involves abnormal development of the lung tissue in infant normally due to being under mechanical ventilation for long. BPD may also arise from other conditions that a newborn is unable to cope with. Such conditions may include pneumonia and trauma or other infections. There is no known cure for BPN; any treatment is aimed at ensuring that the baby gets enough oxygen that will enhance their growth. Some of the medication used may include antibiotics- to reduce bacterial infection; short

Earned Value Management Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Earned Value Management - Research Paper Example Due to features that allow Earned Value Management (EVM) to fuse scope, cost and schedule tools, it can accurately predict the project outcomes. Safe project forecasting allow for better planning ahead of time and to make necessary adjustments. Moreover, various studies show that project that use EVM techniques have a higher success rate than the projects that donââ¬â¢t use. In addition to these benefits, EVM has also proved useful in substantiating project disputes. Different project managers use EVM according to their specific project requirements; however certain features of EVM are considered essential and can be recognized as the defining criterion for EVM techniques. These implementation features are; The main difference between projects that use EVM and the ones that do not is quantifying processes and their performances. For instance, EVM projects set specific criteria to allocate numbers to any process and its relative performance. This helps in tracking and adjusting overall performance of the project. Usually at the end of each week, the project manager reviews the progress and adds together the planned values (PV) of each individual task to calculate the Earned Value (EV). This review can be done weekly, monthly, or according to the nature of the project. To understand the governing principles of EVM it would be helpful to know that every task of a project earns value. And translating these tasks into numbers helps in analyzing the performance and make appropriate adjustments. As a result, project managers can achieve better project forecasting. Project managers compare earned values with planned values and actual costs for reviewing performance. Such comparisons help project managers and the owners of the project to calculate their return on the money spent. Another feature of EVM that makes it convenient as well as efficient is its ability to measure physical performance in dollar amounts (Kidasa, 2005). This

Media and Politics. Picking a local topic, national, and world topic Essay
Media and Politics. Picking a local topic, national, and world topic. Present topic - Essay Example This is because one source will have either some strength or weaknesses, therefore advantaging or disadvantaging the rival source, resulting in the differences. The media, for being such an influential part of society, requires regulations and ethics to govern what qualifies to broadcast or not, for instance in the case of politics, it is important for sources to remain neutral and not influence society in any way. Introduction The general media is a valuable source of information and a powerful medium of information that largely influences the understanding of daily events and occurrences of the people who access its releases. As a watchdog, the media has the potential to either be faithful or not, as it enjoys unlimited freedom in choosing and deciding what is worth publicizing or not, and what perception to create around a certain event or occurrence. The media is a wide fraternity of society comprising of numerous sources at different levels and has similarities, differences, str engths, weaknesses, and much influence on all aspects of society. This essay will conduct an analysis of media sources at three levels; local, national, and international, and bring out the mentioned qualities by comparing the uniqueness of two different media sources at each level in their mode of relaying similar political events. Local media level Local media coverage defines broadcasting of information concerned with a specific context such as a state, whose news would not be of much relevance to other states or to the larger national and international communities. In this case, this study will compare and contrast the relay of news concerning the 2012 accusation of (former) 18th Lieutenant Governor of Florida, Jennifer Carroll, of having a lesbian relationship with an aide in which we shall feature the Miami Herald and Sun-Sentinel as our news sources. The Sun-Sentinel The article with Carrollââ¬â¢s story as appearing on this media source on 12 July 2012 had the headline â⠬Å"Sex scandal becomes the talk of Floridaââ¬â¢s capital.â⬠The story is introduced with catchy words such as ââ¬Å"titillating sex scandalâ⬠and goes on to describe Carroll as one who does not feature much in the news headlines but is this time in the limelight due to criminal charges. However, after this, there is not much mention of her accusations. Rather, the stories focus on one Carletha Cole who is Carrollââ¬â¢s former spokesperson and who is accused of conducting illegal recording. The story does not seem to directly attack Carroll, and all her accusations arise from second parties such as Coleââ¬â¢s attorney bringing up the sexual accusations, but not the source itself. The source does not reveal what the results of a polygraph test carried out on Cole were. At the conclusion of the story, there is much positive information about Carroll, such as the women representatives describing her as a role model. She is also linked to Christianity, and her histor y is depicted as never tainted before (Haughney and Bureau 1). The Miami Herald The Miami Heraldââ¬â¢s headline of the topic is ââ¬Å"Is Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carrollââ¬â¢s Former aide seeking vengeance or injustice?â⬠In this source, Coleââ¬â¢s attorney introduces the sexual accusations against Carroll, this after we learn that Cole is facing criminal charges of illegally taping audio around the Florida State offices. In this article, they

COMPUTER PHYSICIAN ORDER ENTRY Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
COMPUTER PHYSICIAN ORDER ENTRY - Research Paper Example The CPOE system has been identified as significant model of attaining improvement, especially with regard to medication error minimization. Wrong medication administration has often resulted from errors in transcription of handwritten orders as well as confusion of drugs with similar sounding labels or names. However, with computerized ordering and bar code reading of orders and patient records, nurses are least likely to make errors. The capability of CPOE to significantly change the ordering procedures could substantially reduce misuse, underuse and overuse of the health services. The application of CPOE can bring significant improvement in various areas by enhancing compliance, shortening length of hospitalization, reducing medication errors, reducing healthcare costs, reducing legal suits and improve care outcomes (Committee on Quality of Health Care in America, Institute of Medicine, 2000). Introduction of CPOE within health facilities requires structural changes in staffing coupled by appropriate IT training to support staff use. Therefore, there is a need for systematic and extensive review of the ordering system and subsequent restructuring and redesign of the process. All these process should involve all stakeholders interacting with such a system so that they can learn how to apply it in care delivery (Kuperman & Richard, 2003). The CPOE system basically works by guiding the ordering system, and orders are first made by the medical practitioner based on the patient conditions and care requirements. In addition to order details other pertinent issues such as polypharmacy and patients allergies as well as conditions are included alongside the order. The complete order is the transmitted simultaneously to the pharmacy department as well as the patient care unit (AHRQ, 2012). The pharmacy uses the order dispense medicine and check any possible complications and proble ms that may arise

Marketing Management and Strategy Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Marketing Management and Strategy - Case Study Example The five factors include: The Fulham Football Club has been a well known club since the last decade or so. The club came in the limelight when it was bought by an Egyptian businessman Mohammad Al-Fayed in 1997. The millionaire owner of the club gave Fulham FC a new identity in the world of football, following its acquisition the club went on to secure a place in the Premier League Division 1 (Fulhamfc.com). The club has been facing intense rivalry and competition since its promotion into the Division1 of the Premier League. Fulham FCââ¬â¢s microenvironment can be analyzed with the use of Porterââ¬â¢s Five Forces Analysis. The threat of having potential entrants in the football industry for Fulham FC seems to be minimal. The initial investment to launch a football club acts as a possible barrier for new entrant to enter into the football industry. The initial costs of launching a football club are very high and there is a very low chance that a football club may emerge and directly affect the business of Fulham FC. The other barrier of entry is the Premiership structure the division style. No new club can enter directly into the division 1 of the English Premier League. A new club entering into the football industry would have to start from scratch i.e. by playing well and getting promoted through the different divisions till its reaches the Division 1 of the Premier League to challenge the business of Fulham FC. The only threat of new entrant can be from low division clubs such as Brentford FC, QPR, etc. If any of these teams gets promoted into Division 1 of the Premier League, they can affect the bu siness of Fulham FC because of the intense rivalry between the clubs. This intense rivalry can lead to a shift of supporters from Fulham FC to any of the other newly promoted clubs if they were to play better football than Fulham FC. The customers of Fulham FC are

Frost resistance of concrete containing brick aggregate Dissertation
Frost resistance of concrete containing brick aggregate - Dissertation Example This amazing ability also allowed him to predict, characterize and exploit the chemical and physical qualities of minerals, metals and other elements found in nature. It is this specific knowledge that makes it possible to develop new applications in the industries such as construction, shipbuilding, manufacturing, food production, etc. Early structures built by early civilizations of Egypt, China, India and other nations are still in existence today, although most of them are in ruins already. Man will always build new structures as habitat and places to work in, sometimes building skyscrapers to maximize the use of limited land. However, a growing realization that Earth's resources are not infinite has lead to the Green Movement in the construction industry these days. A big component of today's modern structures is concrete which makes up more than 60% of the total volume in construction materials. This paper discusses the exciting possibilities of using concrete with brick aggreg ates in them to improve their frost resistance and make them long-lasting. This paper examines the use of brick aggregates instead of the other usual aggregates in cement. Some studies showed brick aggregates concrete to have better qualities (Singh 27). I. Aim of the Project It is the aspiration of every architect and engineer to build structures which can last for long periods of time. The idea is to build for posterity if possible and this can be done with the right types of construction materials. Concrete has always been a favourite material due to its availability, strength and ease of use. The word concrete comes from the Latin concretus which means compact or condensed; this makes concrete desirable as a material of choice. In concrete, builders have found the ideal material to construct grand buildings of all shapes and sizes. Concrete is a composite construction material derived by mixing cement with fly ash, slags, aggregates (made up of gravel, crushed rocks, limestone, granite and a little bit of sand) water and several chemical admixtures. Concrete solidifies into place after mixing it with water in a process known as hydration. The water reacts chemically with the cement to form and bond all its other components together into a hard rock-like material. Concrete is the most widely-used man-made construction material in the world today. A lot of factors determine whether the concrete will stand the test of time. Moreover, engineering structural designs need to take into consideration the actual load weights imposed on the concrete. A concrete structure is exposed to various elements of nature such as wind, rain, earthquakes, fires, moisture and snow, to name just a few. In other words, the durability of a structure is to a large extent determined by its exposure to the elements. An important consideration that allows a concrete mixture to withstand the extreme elements of nature is the design and composition of the aggregates mixture forming the c oncrete. It is in this regard that I am examining how brick aggregates can improve the frost resistance of the concrete. A re-examination of its desired frost-resistant qualities is vital because it will improve concrete structures by making them more durable. It will help in minimising use of scarce construction materials by reducing a need to build new structures to replace old ones. The problem of

The Prince of Los Cocuyos Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
The Prince of Los Cocuyos - Essay Example He is presented as a father, an older brother and domineering Abuela. All these personalities in real sense appeared to be part of me as a freshman. This was largely due to cultural diversity and above all naivety. Secondly, social-cultural mischief has been additional experience in the college as a freshman. Uncultured behaviors such as homosexuality, heterosexuality and lesbianism are some of the major experiences in colleges common to freshmen such as myself. The Prince of Los Cocuyos portrays all these vices through Riqui. Naturally, through this book, Riquiââ¬â¢s homosexuality greatly affected his personality. As a freshman, this book could not have been any better concerning its explanation of tolerance to different personalities we meet in this life. College life is an extremely challenging though enjoyable. For instances, in the college, I meet various personalities, which I must liberally scrutinize to be socially and psychologically upright throughout the entire college
