Comments and Suggestions to the Student Trainee Chapter I à On the job training or OJT is one method by which students is given a chance to apply the theories and computations that they have learned from the school. It also helps the students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual work setting. Colleges and universities require their students to undergo such training within a specific number of hours as part of the curriculum. For the students, an OJT or internship program provides opportunities to go through the actual methodologies of a specific job using the real tools, equipments and documents. In effect, the workplace becomes a development venue for a student trainee to learn more about his chosen field and practice what he has learn from academy. It is a program which is specially designed for young people in which they can combine work experience with learning the skills and requirements that are necessary for entering or re-entering the working world. It allows those who otherwise may not seek further education to carry on with work whilst still improving their skills and how employable they are. The program also aims to provide worthy potential employee s for employers to source work from, helping both employer and employee in their success. The objectives of the On-the-Job Training program cover a wide base of points. It targets those who have finished either high school or the first years of college and are looking for employment, whilst still in need of skill building and more teaching. It reaches out to those in the community between the ages of 16 and 35 who are in need of the basic training and job skills that will provide them with more opportunities for work than they would have received without the help. This will allow them to stand a real chance in the incredibly competitive jobs market that todays society has created, with everybody running out of money as fast as the jobs are running out. On the other hand, an effective OJT program also benefits the companies who accept trainees. First OJT or intern provides additional manpower for a lesser labor cost than a regular employee. Most of them are all eager to learn the ropes so chances are high that they will cooperate. It is also a method of acquiring knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of practical experience working in a related job environment. This method of training is the core of apprenticeships and technical colleges or polytechnics. OJT recognizes the need to train beyond that which is taught in the classroom and also the need to upgrade and update skills throughout ones working life (this is often coined, professional development). And the main objective of OJT is to remove the learner from the classroom environment to the workplace to continue learning in a manner that will be able to be practically applied upon graduation.

Breakfast Club free essay sample
Albert Bandura believed that direct reinforcement could not account for all types of learning. His theory added a social element, arguing that people can learn new information and behaviors by watching other people. Jonathon Bender is a rebellious, careless delinquent and Banduraââ¬â¢s theories can explain why his behavior is how it is. One example of Benderââ¬â¢s behavior was when he was in the library and the principle kept giving him Saturday schools. He kept asking if Bender was done, but Bender kept egging him on. Bandura would explain this with his theory on intrinsic reinforcement. He described this as a form of internal reward, such as pride, satisfaction, and a sense of accomplishment. Bender kept accepting the future Saturday schools as a form of self accomplishment showing how he would not give in to the principleââ¬â¢s authority. Another example of Benderââ¬â¢s personality was when he told everyone about Christmas in the Bender household. We will write a custom essay sample on Breakfast Club or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page He told them all about how he got verbally abused and burned by a cigar. Bandura would identify the modeling factor a reason why Bender freaked out at the prom queen later on in the movie. Benderââ¬â¢s dad can be identified as a live model, someone who demonstrates behavior, because his actions demonstrated acceptable behavior to Bender. Bender is just following in his fatherââ¬â¢s footsteps because that is the behavior he is exposed to on a regular basis. Lastly, an example of Bender demonstrating intrinsic reinforcement was when he gave himself up in order for everyone else to get back to the library safe. This gave him the satisfaction of saving everyone else from harms way and fueled his pride and satisfaction in that he felt he did something good for others. All in all Bandura would say that Benderââ¬â¢s actions were a result of his dad modeling behavior and the sense of self pride and satisfaction. Breakfast Club free essay sample The five main characters are named Andrew Clark; Brian Johnson; Claire Standish; John Bender; and Allison Reynolds. These characters wrestle with self-acceptance; longs for parental approval; and fight against peer pressure. The objective of these students are to write an essay of no less than one thousand words about who they think they are. This is given to them by their principal/ warden for the day, Richard ââ¬Å"Dickâ⬠Vernon, played by Paul Xavier Gleason. He tries to keep them in their separate cliques by telling them to remain quiet and stating that any monkey business is ill-advised. He starts out by saying ââ¬Å"It is now 7:06. You have exactly 8 hours and 54 minutes to think about WHY you are here to ponder the error of your ways. You will not talk you will now move from these seats. â⬠Andrew Clark, played by Emilio Estevez, is an athlete, a jock, and a ââ¬Å"sporto. â⬠He is currently on the high school wrestling team. We will write a custom essay sample on Breakfast Club or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page His dad is always pushing him to do better since he doesnââ¬â¢t want his son to be a loser because thatââ¬â¢s not ââ¬Å"acceptableâ⬠in his family. Andrew learns to accept the pressure and his wrestling life, although he doesnââ¬â¢t want to be in it. He also learns to accept the fact that taping Larry Lesterââ¬â¢s butt cheeks was very wrong and the fact that his dad was okay with it and wanted him to do worse to Larry was also wrong. Brian Johnson, played by Anthony Michael Hall, is a ââ¬Å"brainiacâ⬠, a geek, and a ââ¬Å"neo-maxie zoom deebie (a dork). â⬠Brian is always looking for acceptance from the popular crowd and could never get it. He learns the most important thing is to accept himself. His reason for being in detention was he brought a gun to school to attempt suicide. Claire Standish, played by Molly Ringwald, is a princess, a prom queen, and ââ¬Å"miss popularity. She struggles throughout the movie to accept that she is unhappy. She also realizes she is trying to be something sheââ¬â¢s not so she would be considered ââ¬Å"popular. â⬠Claire discovers that she is not alone. She learns that everyone needs to mask their feelings to become what people expect them to be and eventually learns to ac cept herself. At home, her mother tries to keep Claire from having fun. John Bender, played by Judd Nelson, is a criminal, a rebel, a punk, and a rebellious bad boy. He starts out as a tough guy who no one really knows well. He shows no respect towards anyone especially teachers and school property. Eventually, he shows acceptance for himself and his classmates and changes his attitude when they share things about themselves. Throughout the movie, he makes fun of Claire but by the end of the movie he shows compassion for her. To show he changed, he stops being rude to Claire and begins to accept everyone else. John becomes more comfortable in his own skin as well as with the other people around him. Allison Reynolds, played by Ally Sheedy, is a basket case, a loner, and a weirdo. She has always felt like an outcast, she is also the most socially isolated and says she has no friends. Throughout the movie, she discovers the unhappiness in her home life is not her fault. At home, Allison is a victim of child neglect from her workaholic parents, and as a result carries a large bag with her to school every day in case she feels like running away. She is the least hesitant to talk openly about her home life and is not afraid of being different. She is also a compulsive liar. She also learns to accept herself and her classmates. Allison claims she is in detention due to the fact she had nothing better to do. I feel I can best identify myself with the character Claire Standish. One thing we have in common is the fact that we believe in relationships where there is one guy and one girl. In the movie, you find out that Claire doesnââ¬â¢t fool around with just any guy and sex isnââ¬â¢t just about physical pleasure for her. Another thing we have in common is the roles our parents play in our lives. Our parents tend to discipline us for the wrong things we do. The third thing we have in common is we both have a sense of security. Because these characters are from different random groups, none of them are from the same background and are all odd. Although they seem different, they find out they are very similar. They learn to overcome their difference and sort of become friends. They leave detention having a sense of who they are and how they want to remain. In the end, Brian wrote the essay stating they know what they did was wrong and they think Mr. Vernon is crazy for making them write an essay telling him who they think they are because he sees them as he wants to see them.

Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, Father of Microbiology
Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, Father of Microbiology Anton van Leeuwenhoek (October 24, 1632ââ¬âAugust 30, 1723) invented the first practical microscopes and used them to become the first person to see and describe bacteria, among other microscopic discoveries.à Indeed, van Leeuwenhoeks work effectively refuted the doctrine of spontaneous generation, the theory that living organisms could spontaneously emerge from nonliving matter. His studies also led to the development of the sciences of bacteriology and protozoology. Early Lifeà Leeuwenhoek was born in Holland on October 24, 1632, and as a teenager he became an apprentice at a linen drapers shop. Although it doesnt seem a likely start to a life of science, from here Leeuwenhoek was set on a path to inventing his microscope. At the shop,à magnifying glasses were used to count the threads and inspect the quality of cloth. He was inspired and taught himself new methods for grinding and polishing tiny lenses of great curvature, which gave magnifications up to 275x (275 times the subjects original size), the finest known at that time. Contemporaneous Microscopes People had been using magnifying lenses since the 12th century and convex and concave lenses for vision correction since the 1200s and 1300s. In 1590, Dutch lens grinders Hans and Zacharias Janssen constructed a microscope with two lenses in a tube; though it may not have been the first microscope, it was a very early model. Also credited with the invention of the microscope about the same time was Hans Lippershey, the inventor of the telescope. Their work led to others research and development on telescopes and the modern compound microscope, such as Galileo Galilei, Italian astronomer, physicist, and engineer whose invention was the first given the name microscope. The compound microscopes of Leeuwenhoeks time had issues with blurry figures and distortions and could magnify only up to 30 or 40 times. Leeuwenhoek Microscope Leeuwenhoeks work on his tiny lenses led to the building of his microscopes, considered the first practical ones. They bore little resemblance to todays microscopes, however; they were more like very high-powered magnifying glasses and used only one lens instead of two. Other scientists didnt adopt Leeuwenhoeks versions of microscopes because of the difficulty in learning to use them.à They were small (about 2 inches long) and were used by holding ones eye close to the tiny lens and looking at a sample suspended on a pin. Leeuwenhoek Discoveries With these microscopes, though, he made the microbiological discoveries for which he is famous. Leeuwenhoek was the first to see and describe bacteria (1674), yeast plants, the teeming life in a drop of water (such as algae), and the circulation of blood corpuscles in capillaries. The word bacteria didnt exist yet, so he called these microscopic living organisms animalcules. During his long life, he used his lenses to make pioneer studies on an extraordinary variety of things- living and nonliving- and reported his findings in more than 100 letters to the Royal Society of England and the French Academy. Leeuwenhoeks first report to the Royal Society in 1673 described bee mouthparts, a louse, and a fungus. He studied the structure of plant cells and crystals, and the structure of human cells such as blood, muscle, skin, teeth, and hair. He even scraped the plaque from between his teeth to observe the bacteria there, which, Leeuwenhoek discovered, died after drinking coffee. He was the first to describe sperm and postulated that conception occurred when a sperm joined with an ovum, though his thought was that the ovum just served to feed the sperm. At the time, there were various theories of how babies formed, so Leeuwenhoeks studies of sperm and ovum of various species caused an uproar in the scientific community. It would be around 200 years before scientists would agree on the process. Leeuwenhoeks View on His Work Like his contemporaryà Robert Hooke, Leeuwenhoek made some of the most important discoveries of early microscopy. In one letter from 1716, he wrote, My work, which Ive done for a long time, was not pursued in order to gain the praise I now enjoy, but chiefly from a craving after knowledge, which I notice resides in me more than in most other men. And therewithal, whenever I found out anything remarkable, I have thought it my duty to put down my discovery on paper, so that all ingenious people might be informed thereof. He did not editorialize on meanings of his observations and acknowledged he was not a scientist but merely an observer. Leeuwenhoek was not an artist either, but he worked with one on the drawings he submitted in his letters. Death Van Leeuwenhoek also contributed to science in one other way. In the final year of his life, he described the disease that took his life. Van Leeuwenhoek suffered from uncontrollable contractions of the diaphram, a condition now known as Van Leeuwenhoek disease. He died of the disease, also called diaphragmatic flutter, on August 30, 1723, in Delft. He is buried at the Oude Kerk (Old Church) in Delft. Legacy Some of Leeuwenhoeks discoveries could be verified at the time by other scientists, but some discoveries could not because his lenses were so superior to others microscopes and equipment. Some people had to come to him to see his work in person. Just 11 of Leeuwenhoeks 500 microscopes exist today. His instruments were made of gold and silver, and most were sold by his family after he died in 1723. Other scientists did not use his microscopes, as they were difficult to learn to use. Some improvements to the device occurred in the 1730s, but big improvements that led to todays compound microscopes didnt happen until the middle of the 19th century. Legal Rights of Buyers and Sellers Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Legal Rights of Buyers and Sellers - Case Study Example In Office of Fair Trading's (OFT) website any person can see the consumer rights forum and can use for his rightful purpose. This paper presents about the rights that are applicable to a consumer and a seller. If both parties are in dispute regarding the product they can approach OFT or court. After making an enquiry court will rule in favour of the party that follows the rules and regulations. Lets look at the present case. Bigbeef Ltd is in the business of butchery trade as a wholesale supplier of fresh meat. While supplying the products they give customers a detailed description of the standard terms and conditions of trading which has to be strictly followed. It includes a clause. According to this clause until buyer pays the amount in full the ownership of the goods supplied will remain with the seller, which in this case is Bigbeef Ltd. If the buyer hasn't paid in full or paid some amount then the seller has every right to take action by recovering and selling the goods and may enter buyer's premises for that purpose. Afterwards legal action would be taken against the buyer to recover the dues. Before the payment of the dues if the buyer alters the supplied goods in any way then the seller has the whole property rights on those altered and processed goods until such payments has been made and seller' s would be extended to those altered or processed goods. Until the buyer pays the amount in full for the goods relationship between them would be money related in respect of the goods.Bigbeef Ltd supplied 100 sides of fresh British beef to Frosty Ltd that is a frozen meat distributor and a regular customer. Frosty Ltd hasn't paid any amount regarding the supply of the British beef. Of the 100 sides 75 were cut into joints, packaged and frozen ready for resale. Because of the stringent government laws and regulations regarding labelling of beef the original supplier of the goods can be easily traced. Frosty Ltd sold the remaining 25 sides to a local super market that were supplied by Bigbeef Ltd to Frosty Ltd. Frosty Ltd made no profits from this trade to local super market. The above is the scenario in which one party supplies goods to the second party without receiving any payment. The second party sells a part of the supplies to the third party without making any profits. Due to UK's strict laws with respect to labelling of the goods the second party cannot sell the goods supplied by first party without prior permission from them or until full payment is made. Shipping Logistics in the UK Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Shipping Logistics in the UK - Essay Example Data for the research will be gathered from both primary and secondary data where all participants will be selected randomly to reduce biasness in the research. Questionnaires will be used to help in data collection where telephone interviews will be used to help reduce cost of travelling. After data has been collected it will be analyzed using computer programs such as Ms. Excel and SPSS and presented using tables and graphs. Confidentiality will be observed as a strategy for enforcing ethics sin research. Background of the Research The term shipping has changed from what it was associated with in the past to include any form of transport moving goods from one point to another (Lun, Lai and Cheng, 2010, p. 12). Previously, the term the term was associated with water borne transport. Consequently this extended meaning makes the industry a complex and dynamic. Logistics is described as the management of the flow of commodities from the point of production to target point with an aim o f meeting the needs of customers and companies. Logistics calls for assimilation of information, inventory, transportation, warehousing, handling and packaging of materials and security of the goods. According to Fremont (2009, p. 1), for the last 50 years, containerization has turned into the prop of globalization. Additionally, this period has seen increased international trade and consequently this calls for efficient shipping logistics. Companies and businesses demand for better synchronized shipping activities in terms of location and space by development of logistics chains. The total value of the UK logistics industry was $105.7 billion in 2010 having grown by 9.9 percent in the 2009-10 fiscal years. This sector employs thousands of people and supports a significant proportion of the countryââ¬â¢s economy. However, the sector is facing various constrains which may impede the efficient discharge of its responsibilities to different stakeholders. One primary concern in the s ector is the security threats caused by pirates and increased terrorism cases (Askins, 2012, p. 15). The other issue facing the UK shipping sector is that fact that with enlargement of European Union, competition has increased with the newer member states to the EU who have lower operational costs. Moreover, in the late 1990s, there was increased demand for bigger containers and tanker ships overstretched the capacity of the available ports thereby impeding trade.
